Las Vegas - 2016

Wednesday
We landed pretty late so after checking in at the La Quinta Inn near Las Vegas Boulevard, so close to the casinos. We ate at a Denny's pretty close by, then turned in for the night.

Thursday
Aida had a desire to do a Zip Line ride, so we headed to the Rio Las Vegas Casino on Flamingo road. The call it the
VooDoo Zipline. It has some amazing views of the Las Vegas Casinos. We arrived early and were the first ones these. There was no line of people waiting. Perhaps the cold weather had something to do with that.

We then proceeded to Caesars directly accross the highway. We all split up to do our gambling. Me to a Black Jack, them to the no-armed bandits. I lost $110 in about 20 minutes, the dealer would show 6 and still get 21. I left the tables and walked around the casino taking pictues of the statues and displays for the next couple of hours.

Friday
Remy has been wanting to find the restaurant we ate Dim Sum at a few years ago. We met Ludie Litz for at a restaurant near the Rio that she heard had good Dim Sum. It was not quite the deal we expected. After lunch we went with Ludie to the house she is renting with the thoughts of buying. It is on the west side of town, close to the Time Share we own at South Point. She brought us back to the Rio where we gambled a few hours. I had a good winning streak going when I left to meet them so we could get ready for the Willie Nelson Show at the Cosmopolitan. Ended up $435 to the good. Willie did a surprising good show with some of his family.

Saturday
We moved from our room at the La Quinta to the Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the strip. It turns out there are several of these in Vegas. The one we were to stay at is right next to the Circus Circus Casino. We ate the buffet at Circus Circus. It was pretty good. In the gambling afterwards I broke even.

Sunday
We went to mass at the Guardian Angel Cathedral, a few blocks from our room. Afterward we went back to the Circus Circus to use the coupons for steaks we got the day before. It was a good price and tasted good, but I need to stay away from steaks. I can't chew all that good anymore. At the card tables afterward I netted $125.
There is a discount counter in the casino and we bought some tickets for the 9:30 showing of "The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil " at the Mirage. It had plenty of Acrobats doing different Beatles related themes at the same time. It was intesting but pretty busy to keep up with, too much to follow it all.

Monday
I looked at several different options for a hike this trip and finally decided on the Historic Railroad Trail near Lake Mead. I dropped Remy at Hoover Dam Lodge Casino which was very near the trailhead. The trail all the way to the dam is about 4.5 miles. The trail is well marked since it is the old railroad tracks that were used to bring the supplies for building the Hoover dam. I kept my pace up and finished it in about 3 hours. The trail includes several tunnels and ends up overlooking the Hoover Dam.

Tuesday
I was first on the reservation for the "Vegas Indoor Sky Diving", so we got there as they opening. Aida was considering doing it, but chose to watch first. There was another couple that went through the lessons with me. We had to learn hand signals first because it is too loud from the wind to hear anything. Then we entered the chamber. We got to do 3 dives of about one minute each. To end each session he would point to the wall and help us roll out to the mat. I did ok, but it takes a little practice to keep to the middle and position your body so that it stays even. My biggest obstacle was remembering to look up instead of down.

Afterwards, we ate the breakfast special at Circus Circus. I Lost $150 there that day, but I got $40 back at Caesar's before the Celine Dion show. I didn't have my camera with and they didn't allow any photos, but Aida used Remy's phone to get one of Remy and me in the seats. Not the most flatterin image of us, but one of the few you will see of me. Celine put on a really good show, thanking all her fans for supporting her with her husbands illess. He died a couple days later and she stopped performing again for at least a month.

Wednesday Remy had forgot to cash her casino money from Hoover Dam Lodge Casino so we went back there in spite of my recommendation she just rip it up. On the way we stopped in Boulder City at the Railroad Museum. During the season they run the trains, but now it was pretty scarce to find anyone there. We were able to look at a few trains sitting there and some displays. There was an interesting video about the mail service that the railroad once provided. Later another family stopped by, other than them we were it.

After a few minutes of looking at the train we proceeded to the Hoover Dam Lodge Casino where Remy lost the amount on her ticket and some more, just as I predicted. I played video blackjack and Remy was getting jealous of the dealer who kept winking at me(she was hot!). All summed up I lost $20 here but had some good time with other gamblers.

Thursday
Since Dave and Aida were getting burned at the strip casinos, Remy decided we would spend the last day at the Southpoint Casino which is across the street from our timeshare that we normally go to. We started off going to the buffet which was excellent. Then we split up, they saw a movie and we hit the gambling. I ended up winning $210 by the time we concluded our stay there; I'm not sure I got a winnings status report from the others.

Friday
We had a 7:30 am flight back to Corpus Christi, so we got our stuff together and left to the rental car return in the early hours. Remy let me set at the window this time, so I got a few
Return Flight shots of some interesting formations early on.
